Protect your Investment with Abrasion Resistant Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate AR2

Allplastics Engineering offers clear Polycarbonate sheets with a special coating which has a highly abrasion resistant surface that almost approaches glass in performance. Lexan polycarbonate MR10 and Makrolon AR2 are 2 brands which are available in various thicknesses from 3mm, 4.5mm, 6mm, 9.5mm and 12.7mm thick. The Lexan MR10 and Makrolon AR2 are for transparent applications only. Both are backed by manufacturer’s warranties against abrasion, coating failure and breakage. With enhanced UV resistance to protect against yellowing and hazing Makrolon AR2 sheets provide a longer service life for high profile architectural glazing projects.

The unbreakable feature and abrasion resistance combined makes these materials the ideal choice for security glazing in police stations; anti-vandal viewing panels in transport stations and public venues, earth moving machinery windows, forestry equipment, ship portholes, railway double glazing and heavy duty guards.

Due to its mar-resistant coating, this polycarbonate variety cannot be cold-formed and is intended only for flat applications.

Chemical Resistance
Lexan MR10/ Makrolon AR2 sheet feature improved chemical resistance to a variety of cleaners, solvents and other corrosive elements that can attack standard polycarbonate sheet. Care should be taken to install this sheet in sealed frame to protect uncoated saw-cut edge from chemical attack.
Care and cleaning
Under normal conditions Lexan MR10/ Makrolon should be washed on a regular basis with a mild solution of soap and warm water using a soft cloth or sponge. To prevent water spots, thoroughly dry Lexan MR10/ Makrolon sheet with chamois or sponge. Do not use abrasive cleaners or sharp instruments such as razor blades or scrapers that may gouge the surface. For graffiti removal. Organic solvents such as butyl cello-solve, kerosene, naphtha (VM&P naptha) or mineral spirits work very well. Methanol, denatured ethanol and isopropyl alcohol are also excellent cleansing agents. It is important to rinse off the surface thoroughly after cleaning.
