For hundreds of centuries timber extracted from trees such as the African Blackwood & Apricot trees have been used to craft the wind instruments such as the flute and the duduk. Acetal (Delrin) rods supplied by Allplastics Engineering have been used to machine Flutes with surprisingly authentic reproduction of the traditional wooden version. Availability of traditional materials as well as difficulty of working with materials such as “Ebony” made this viable. Acetal allows a machining process that provides a very smooth surface and a consistent finish from one batch to the other. It has good resistance to moisture and easy to maintain and clean. The Material can be CNC machined, milled and threaded with excellent results. Allplastics stocks and cuts a wide variety of Acetal rods and sheets as well as a precision machining service.
