Layered Potential by artist Elyssa Sykes-Smith is a site-specific installation that explores the psychological state of the layering of ideas to arrive at new and unexpected conclusions. The artwork includes on figure depicted in a gesture of reaching our and projecting shapes and colours, symbolic of layered ideas, into the space.
Layered Potential was created using a selection of acrylic, sourced and pre-fabricated, at Allplastics Engineering: Perspex and polycarbonate. Sykes-Smith utilised a variety of Perspex elements to create the figure including translucent, opaque, frosted, mirrored and fluorescent elements.

Allplastics recently supplied a childcare centre on the northern suburbs of Sydney with clear polycarbonate panels which segregated the centre from the neighbourhood.
UV resistant polycarbonate in 9.5mm thickness was chosen due to its toughness – which is 250 times stronger than glass – making it hail-proof and safeguarded against objects that may be thrown at it, such as toys, rocks or pebbles.

Solid polycarbonate sheets are available in various thicknesses ranging from 3mm thick to 12mm. There is MAR resistant or AR2 (protection on both sides) polycarbonate available for table-top use, as this application requires regular wiping and having objects rubbing against it.

The Collectors’ Gallery is a permanent display of thousands of objects previously held in the State Library of New South Wales underground storage area. It includes sculpture busts, miniature portraits, ceramics, coins, models, cutlery, teacups, typewriters, convict bricks and much more…

The Allplastics fabrication team completed the lightboxes on the sides of the gallery displays, using 10mm thick Polar White PERSPEX® Frost, which has a 10 year warranty against discolouration. The panels were custom made with machined edges, which created a stunning outcome!

Allplastics Engineering recently completed an interesting installation in Sydney’s Central business district. The client required to have transparent panels to fill the openings between the existing structure posts.

9.5mm thick clear polycarbonate UV2 grade was selected due to its outdoor features, exceptional strength and resistance to hail. Frameless fixtures were utilised to maximise the aesthetics. This design allowed the occupants on levels 10 and 11 of the York street building to enjoy the sun and fresh air as well as preventing the risk of using the ledge to climb up.
